Improve Your Blog’s Adsense CTR

So, you say that you want to make a nice chunk of change with your blog, eh? If you’re thinking like a majority of blog owners on the Blogosphere, you’ve probably turned to Google Adsense for some pay per click monetization. Can where you put your Google Adsense Ads improve your click-through-rate (CTR) and Adsense income for your Blog?

Google says, “Yes”

Google’s AdSense gurus indicate that there is a relationship between Adsense ads placement and click-through-rate. They say that when ads are placed in “content zones” as opposed to “advertising zones”, click rates goes up.

“Blogtimizing” your Adsense Ads - When working with a blog, where should you put your ads? As a blog owner, you’re faced with some challenging hurdles that could hurt CTR. One major hurdle is Adsense blindness, that is your visitors just tune out your ads.

However, Google does have a few suggestions to make the most of your readership and content.

“To increase the likelihood that your readers will see and click on your ads, blend your ad units into the background of your blog. Choose a bold color for the ad title to help draw attention to your ads, then make sure that the background and borders of your ads are the same color as the background of the area where the ad is placed.“

Experiment with different ad formats and locations – Google also has suggestions as to where to place your ads as illustrated on this Adsense Hot Spot Map for Blogs.

In general, large and wider ad formats tend to be more reader-friendly. Placing an ad unit after the first post will likely catch your readers’ attention. Google suggests placing a Skyscraper (120×600) or vertical link unit on the right side of your blog.However, consider these suggestions as just that, suggestions. Do your own experiment to see what works for you and your blog.Also, keep in mind that the best way to improve click through rate is by increasing your blog’s traffic stats. The more visitors that come, the more clicks you’ll get!
