discount-click Internet marketing is an important part of running an online business. It is the fastest growing advertising method for all business (online AND off line) in this day and age. Typical Internet marketing revolves around a drive to get more traffic, no matter what. Traffic to a website is the key to the success of Internet business.

In simple terms, Internet marketing is the process of growing and promoting your presence online. While there are hundreds of online marketing techniques, the most common, and most misunderstood, forms of Internet marketing today is link building.

Link building is a pretty general term. It is used to describe anything you do to build links back to a website to increase natural traffic. The more inbound links you have pointing to your site, the more traffic you would receive from search engines. While this sounds simple enough, link building has changed considerably in the past 5 years.

For example, in the ‘old days’ web masters would build links by submitting their URLS to link farms, develop reciprocal links, or purchase links to increase the number of links back to their web site.

You can’t rely on these methods anymore.

Today, submitting your website url to a link farm or purchasing one way links can actually hurt your Google PR (page rank). Reciprocal links (where you trade website url with other webmasters) is not as effective as it once was.

What search engines really want to see are one way, contextually relevant, quality links back to your site.

Getting one way links may have been tricky in the past, but today it’s not as difficult as it sounds. Here are 3 ways things you can do to get quality one way links back to your website.

* Thoughtful Comments on Blogs - Many blog owners allow you to leave comments (along with a link back to your website) in their blog post. This is an excellent way of getting quality links back to your website.

One drawback to this method is that many blogs are installed with a ‘nofollow’ feature to combat blog link spam. The ‘nofollow’ tag tell search engines like Google not to count a particular link. So, even if you post 100 comments in a 3 month period on a blog with the ‘nofollow’ feature installed, your links will not be counted in search engine results.

* Social Bookmarking - Social bookmarking is a way for Internet users to store, organize, share and search web pages. It’s not just a fad — it’s a huge opportunity to generate one way links back to your website or blog. The most popular social book marking sites today include Digg.com, Technorati.com, and del.icio.us.

* Forums - Finally, many community forums allow you to place a link or two back to your site in your signature. The more you post on forum, the more links back you will receive. Always check with the forum’s linking policy before you do this.

* Submitting Articles - Submitting your original articles to free article submission directories is an excellent opportunity to get hundreds (if not thousands) of one way links back to your website.

If done correctly, building one way links is a helpful Internet marketing tool that can naturally increase your traffic. The more traffic you get, the more sales, clicks, or leads you will see.

If you have any one way linking methods you would like to share, feel free to leave a comment. We would live to hear from you!
