How much does it cost to have a high traffic website built?

I’d like to pay a web designer to make me a website that I believe could see a lot of traffic. It’d be similar in scope to myspace. How much do you think it would cost?

here i researched your question and saw this link

Traffic is always correlated to the content of a site, something you will have to figure out on your own.
Paying for webdesign, while good for some projects, probably isn’t what you’d be looking for in this case, because with something of a large scale (IE: A social networking site like MySpace) is always benifited by owners who know exactly how to manage it.
On top of this, the database, frontend client, and backend client work would make for astronomical prices.

web designer only make attractive website. their biz is web design not web traffic so they will sell their web design biz to get client. getting traffic to site is completely different things. you need to know how to promote it. if you are targeting free search engine traffic you have to learn seo while making your site. if you hire seo company to do that you have to pay somewhere 100-200 dollars per month and that still don’t guarantee you will get immediate traffic. so it is very costly if you really don’t know what you are doing. so before spending any money you need to get clear picture how to build a website that works. only then you will make the site and working on the traffic generation. remember 90% of website owners failed in their online biz within 5 years. they stopped because they cannot afford anymore to maintain their site with so little income.

To get traffic you actually want an SEO person. That will help to bring people to you. Once they arrive, then what? Are you attempting to create ad revenue or sell a product/service?

If you’re selling ad space, then you don’t care who shows up, so long as they do show up.

If you’re selling a product/service, then you really only want the right demographic to show up and be interested in what you’re selling. For this, you’ll need not just a web designer, but someone skilled with creating targeted content.

Before you try to build the next "big thing", figure out if there’s a way to leverage the current "big thing" and work with it. Trying to establish the "big thing" takes a lot of time & money and isn’t a "sure thing".
