I had the same question awhile ago… I was surprised to hear that eBay is still a great money maker. I do sell on eBay quite frequently. The hard part is finding the items that you can resell. Normally you can start small with a few hundred dollas. For me I bought "Carbon Fiber Universal Shift Knobs" I bought them at 2.37/peice and sold them for 9.99 +S&H for a net profit of $7.62/peice.
There are several sites out there that will sell bulk items to you. They just arent that easy to always find. However, this is a good thing, as if you can’t find them easily, then the general consumer cant either.
