Out of any player to EVER play in the mlb, who would make the most money today?

My guess is Babe Ruth, yours?

I will go to player number two (since Babe Ruth would own half the league), and my money goes on Mickey Mantle. He has all the variables going for him – young phenom, power hitter, speed, a low-key flamboyance – which would guarantee a monster contract of Godzilla proportions.

    Babe Ruth, probably.

But if Cy Young could win 45 games a year, that might pull in some bucks, lol.

babe ruth would be too busy with hookers/hot dogs to get in shape for the current level of fitness needed for today’s game of baseball

Babe Ruth is a great answer. I’d also go with Sandy Koufax or Bob Gibson because dominant pitching will get you money.

You can’t pick a better player than the Babe. Babe Ruth would easily hit 800 or more home runs if he was playing to day.

i say willie mays, he was the home run threat that ruth was plus he had great speed so that got him stolen bases and great defense, he could do anything

I am going to have to go with Joe Dimaggio. His class was outstanding he would want the most money and he would get the most money. The Babe is a close second.

Without a doubt it is Babe Ruth. Remember he was a great pitcher first before becoming a slugger. He hit more homers in a season than all other teams combined. He hit 714homers playing 154 game seasons plus having 5 seasons where he pitched and rarely played in the field. He would be the biggest draw for fans, not like Barry Bonds fans would love him today just as they did then. Someone said he would not be in shape but remember Ruth was a stolen base threat in the 20′s even at his size. He was also a .350 career hitter when only 8 teams were in a league so he did not face watered down pitchers. ( A negative he also did not face african americans or hispanic pitchers). AROD is the highest paid player ever and his career numbers will eventually exceed Ruth’s but he has not had a 60 homer season and is not a career .350 hitter and has not won a world series like Ruth who won for Boston and New York. Starting pitchers will never make as much as an everyday player because they only help their team 30 to 35 games a year in todays game.
By the way I love the Lou Gehrig picture ( MY favorite player) who would have made a lot of many also. Can you imagine what a player would make for driving in 183 runs in a season?

Probably Babe Ruth, but if Mickey Mantle played today, I bet he wouldn’t have abused his body the way he did. Can you imagine what kind of player Mickey would have been if he had taken care of himself and trained the way players do today? A switch-hitter with power and speed and can hit for average? He’d make a helluva lot more than PAYROD.

The Babe would be the biggest check. others in the vicinity would be Walter Johnson, Ted Williams, Joe Dimaggio, Lou
Gehrig, Jimmy Foxx, Lefty Grove. While ARod might put up big numbers, the affection that Ruth had was unbelievable, people packed the stand to see him play…I dont think that Arod can make that claim.

Ruth would be a DH and closer and great at both.
I would guess he might just take a percentage of the team instead of a salary–who could afford him?
